It is hardly whispered anywhere
how it is that our nation
     has begun
     "economic recovery."

Growth in manufactured goods
     would not be growth
     if we did not count
     military hardware.

Money taken from "social programs"
     to reduce
     "big government"
     allows purchase of
     more and bigger
     military equipment.

Those who lead the way
     in economic recovery
     are those who run
     and work in
     armament-related industries.

Those who work
     in industries which provide
     homes
     health-care
     aging services
     and other people industries
     are yet to detect
     economic recovery.

Blessed are those fortunate
     to be at work
     in the industries
     which build missiles
     and bombs
     and bombers
     and nerve gas
     and guns...
     for they make possible
     the promised
     economic recovery.

Lonely...

It must be lonely
      to stand against
      92 colleagues.

It must be lonely
      amidst all "yes" votes
to cast the only "no" vote.

As did Senator Mark Harfield.

It must be lonely
      to stand against
       the whole military system.

It must be lonely
      to stand against
      the "hit list" keepers.

It must be lonely
      to stand against
      nuclear over-kill.

It must be lonely
      to stand against
      warfare welfare.

It must be lonely
      to stand for
      human welfare.

It must be lonely
      to cast the only vote
      for sanity.
