"Our blunderer which art not in heaven,
blessed be thy excellent intentions,
hurry up with thy kingdom which is so
long in coming, get they job done on
earth which will then become heaven.
Give us this day our daily vitality;
and forgive us our trespasses as we
forgive yours, knowing that you mean
well.  Lead us into all sorts of
temptations, and never say die; for
thine is the impulse and the gumption
and the glory, world with end.  Amen.
(Bernard Shaw, from a letter)

One might think of humans as the cause
of war, rather that God.  Shaw needles
the true believers by urging God to do
His job.

Peace is not waiting for God.

Peace is doing now what we already
know well enough that we ought to do.

If God is in heaven...or anywhere...
ht/she/it must be disgusted!

"My God..!" – he exclaimed.

Hatfield again...
     before a Senate vote
     on nerve gas.

"Is there no limit to the
     voracious appetite of the military
to suck up every dollar we have?"

Again he comes across
     not like those
     "patriotic prophets"
     who want the approval
     of their king...
     but like the ancient prophets
     who spoke for the Lord
     at whatever cost.

Sometimes it cost the
     their heads!

The "patriotic prophets"
     are known for their
     "Lord-praising"
     and
     "ammunition passing."

Kings applaud
     and generals
     and makers of weapons...
     but not God.

History warns of
     trading bread for bombs
     and about Lord-praisers
     who wave flags and guns.

And it teaches us to listen
     when a lonely prophet says:
     "My God!"
