His life-filled wife
     grew ill...then died.

His despair was immense...
     impossibly incurable
     as despair claims to be.

We shared the pain
     of his struggle
     to live beyond her death.

The in my new season mail
     a note:

"My life has been a whirlwind
     this past year.
     Just a year ago
     my wife was dying.

Today I not only have my own
     26-year-old daughter
     and 24-year-old son...
     but now I have
     a new wife
and new son and new daughter
     and a new life
to love as much as the old."

"When some tells me
     they have life figured out
     my response is:
          'Hang on...
          You've just begun the ride!'"

"Do you believe in healing?
      Do you really believe
      that these kinds
      can be whole again?"

My question to
      child-care workers
      and therapists.

Nobody said a word.

I'm not really sure
      whether or not
      they believed in healing.

I'm almost afraid
      they have quit believing
      anything will change.

I suggested that faith
      believes in healing...
      and transmits that belief.

Unless people believe
      in their own healing
      they have no hope.

I hope I helped them
      revive faith
      in faith.
