GENESIS 1:1

"In the beginning..."
    I am at attention...
    almost breathless
    in wondering.

I remember in childhood
    staring on a clear night
    into a star–filled sky.

Where do they begin?
    Where end?
    Where come from?

The star–light  in the night
    began its journey to me
    millions of years ago.

Does the light–source still exist?

100 Million suns...
    unnumbered solar systems
    and multiplying galazies.

"In the beginning...
    God...
    created."

It does not diminish my wonder...
    nor answer my questions
    nor stifle my awe.

It's an answer
    that doesn't answer...
which is as good an answer
    as we'll likely get.

    GENESIS 1:3

"and God said..."

You're kidding...
    it all gegan
    with a speech?

Who says – "God said?"
Nobody was there...
    or did God
    keep His notes?

Or did somebody dream it
    or guess
    what God said?

Who says that
even if there is a God
    that God talks?

In what language
    did God say
    whatever He said?

And why do we say "He"
    when we talk
    about God?

Saying presumes
    an idea.

Which is why –
    I presume –
    we say "God said."
